Huperzine A Overview
Huperzine A (other names HupA, Huperzina A, Huperzine, Huperzine A, Selagine) is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and a natural occurring sesquiterpene alkaloid compound purified in the plan called Chinese club moss.
It can be used to increase memory, mental function, learning ability, muscular disorder and is useful for aged-related memory impairment. Studies show Huperzine A with certain drugs used for treating Alzheimer’s disease by Scientists at Zhejiang Medical University, in Hangzhou, China and indicates Huperzine A is many times more effective and selective than Tacrine.
The product is of interest because it may be effective at lower doses, so it causes fewer side effects.
However, most doctors don’t recommend Huperzine A since The Alzheimer’s Association recommends that you not take it if you’re already taking a prescribed cholinesterase inhibitor, like Aricept, Exelon, etc. Taking both could cause side effects.
